While many schools were disappointed in having to postpone their planned trip to Canberra in 2020, there is now fantastic news for schools planning a visit to Canberra in 2021, with the Australian Government increasing the rebate amount.
The increased rebate amounts will apply for schools that travel during 2021 so we encourage you to make the most of this and plan your school trip early to avoid disappointment.
The new rebate amounts are as follows:

1 – (150 – 499 km) | $20 | $30 |
2 – (500 – 999 km) | $30 | $45 |
3 – (1000 – 1499 km) | $60 | $90 |
4 – (1500 – 1999 km) | $100 | $150 |
5 – (2000 – 2499 km) | $150 | $225 |
6 – (2500 – 2999 km)* | $200 | $300 |
7 – (3000 – 3999 km) | $310 | $465 |
8 – (4000 km and over) | $340 | $510 |
*includes all students from Tasmania because of additional air/sea travel expenses.
Please note, Schools on islands in remote locations (as determined by the Australian Bureau of Statistics in its classification of Remoteness) receive an additional $120 per student plus their allocated distance rebate. See our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for the list of eligible islands.
